Matt Fitzgerald is a writer specializing in endurance sports, fitness, and diet. He has authored or co-authored 22 books, including Racing Weight, Diet Cults, and Iron War. A former editor at Triathlete and Competitor magazines, Fitzgerald has contributed to Bicycling, Men’s Health, Men’s Journal, Outside, Runner’s World, Shape, Stuff, Women’s Health, and to popular sports and fitness websites including active.com, competitor.com, and stack.com.
A professional sports nutritionist certified by the International Society of Sports Nutrition, Fitzgerald has served as a consultant to a number of sports nutrition companies including Next Proteins and PacificHealth Labs. Currently, he serves as an ambassador for the Cherry Marketing Institute. Fitzgerald conducts peer reviews for the Journal of the International Society of Sports Nutrition and has advised a number of professional endurance athletes, including Olympians Ryan Hall and Sarah Groff, on weight management and racing fueling.
Fitzgerald serves as a coach and spokesman for PEAR Sports, a sports tech company that develops smart phone apps and related content for runners and other athletes. He is also a featured coach on trainingpeaks.com. In 2014, he launched a Racing Weight coaching service with his Racing Weight Cookbook co-author, Georgie Fear.
