William Rom, M.D., MPH

William N. Rom M.D., MPH is the Sol and Judith Professor of Medicine and Environmental Medicine at New York University School of Medicine and Director of the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine. He is Director of the Chest Service at Bellevue Hospital Center, the nation’s largest public hospital. He has published over 500 peer review articles, books and book chapters, and abstracts. His research is on Environmental Lung Disease, the Early Detection of Lung Cancer, and Tuberculosis and AIDS. He was the Founder and Director of the Rocky Mountain Center for Occupational and Environmental Heath at the University of Utah, and was a Senior Investigator at the Pulmonary Branch, NHLBI, NIH where he deciphered the mechanisms of asbestosis, silicosis, and coal worker’s pneumoconiosis. He currently directs the NCI-funded NYU Lung Cancer Biomarker Center that follows >1200 high-risk smokers for the molecular mechanisms of early lung cancer and biomarker research.
