Ian Billick is a field biologist who is interested in the ecology and evolution of complex systems. He earned a BA in Math and Physics at Trinity University (Texas) in 1988 and a PhD in Biology at the University of California San Diego in 1997. He serves as the Executive Director of the Rocky Mountain Biological Laboratory in Gothic, Colorado, home to one of the world’s largest annual migrations of field biologists. He is the current Past President of the Organization of Biological Field Stations (OBFS) and is leading a joint strategic planning effort for OBFS and the National Association of Marine Labs. He was the senior editor of the Ecology of Place (Chicago Press), which explores the value of place-based research to generating general insights.
